James Throup

Research Associate

James Throup began his career at Shell, where he researched novel fuel filtration methods. He went on to receive his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol, where he won the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Agricultural Engineering Douglas Bomford Award for his investigation into pollinating vanilla flowers with drones.

He was also recognised with an Alumni Association Student Award in 2017 – Selected from the student body for outstanding contribution to the life of the university: Founding the mechanical engineering society, captaining the basketball team and coordinating a singing tour to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
