Senior Communications Consultant

ALLFED is currently seeking a senior communications consultant to help oversee all aspects of communications.

In some cases, this will mean creating content, and in many cases it will mean overseeing the content created by other people. Types of content include written content, social media, design, podcasts, videos, and more. The role will also involve forming partnerships with people and groups who can help ALLFED reach a larger audience.

Location:

Any /  Home (flexible arrangement, remote flexi working).

Duration and Hours:

This is a part-time basis (15-30 hours/week)). You will need to take part in communication team calls (phone or online conferencing, which may be very early/late for you due to time zone differences). The majority of time you will be able to set your own working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee content creation for website – including content creation for website redesign,
  • Oversee social media platforms and review the content developed for them,
  • Review content for other platforms as necessary,
  • Assist ALLFED members with articles, interviews, presentations, etc. as necessary,
  • Pitch ideas to other publications,
  • Form partnerships with people and organizations who have larger followings on social media and other platforms and who can help create and share content,
  • Oversee podcasts and video creation if necessary,
  • Ensure brand consistency for all content creation and across all platforms,
  • Oversee editorial team as necessary,
  • Establish partnerships with various journalists and develop database to keep track of journalist partnerships, using ALLFED’s contact management systems,
  • Attend conferences and events as necessary to help represent ALLFED and to remain up to date on current research related to ALLFED, which will ensure communications meet current scientific expectations,
  • Assist with PR or oversee external PR team,
  • Oversee creation of newsletters and annual reports,
  • Representing ALLFED in media interviews,
  • Write press releases.

Essential (must have):

  • Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills;
  • Comfortable with working remotely and online collaboration systems;
  • Able to give/take constructive feedback about work to/from other team members;
  • Willingness to learn new tools, methods, software;
  • Awareness of a significant responsibility that comes with ALLFED’s work, especially when it comes to outreach and public media presence;
  • Good English spoken and written language skills;
  • Access to high speed Internet (for your research and video conference calls);
  • Headset (microphone + headphones) for calls.

Role Specific  

  • A degree in English, journalism, or communications (or high-level experience)
  • Experience in online communication, website oversight, and/or science communication
  • Track record of leading a team to produce high-level, brand-driven content
  • Strong oral, written, and digital communication skills
  • Analytical skills to solve problems and find the best way to convey a message
  • The creativity to produce exciting and interesting content
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline or in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies
  • Understanding of copywriting, graphic design, layout, and publishing
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and social media marketing

Desirable (nice to have):

  • Working knowledge of content management systems, HTML coding, and digital graphics production and familiarity with a variety of digital platforms
  • Experience with newsletter platforms
  • Experience with search engine marketing, Google Analytics, and Google AdWords
  • Dual degrees in a communications-related field and a science field
  • Experience communicating about resilient foods
  • Experience communicating about catastrophic threats
  • Experience working with an EA organization
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
